About the Author

Virginia Cowles (1903-1991) was an American journalist and author. She was best known for her reporting on the Spanish Civil War and World War II. Cowles was also a close friend of many of the leading figures of the 20th century, including Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Winston Churchill.
