Clarence Brown was one of the most successful directors in Hollywood history, directing over 80 films and winning three Academy Awards. He is best known for his work on such classic films as TheDevil and Miss Jones (1941),National Velvet (1944),and Intruder in the Dust (1949). However, despite his success, Brown is often overlooked by film historians and critics. This book aims to rectify that by exploring Brown's life and work, and arguing that he is one of the most important and influential directors of all time.
